BAH2

Training

The BH² training program has two major curriculum: Construction Training Program and Professional Fundamentals Training Program.

Our Construction Training Program consists of four major disciplines: electrical, air conditioning, plumbing and carpentry. All disciplines require basic math, reading, computer, and general knowledge classes. Participants can choose their field of trade. New classes start every six months. Participants will receive certification upon successful completion of the total hours required in the training curriculum. The training program consists of classroom theory and on-the-job training. The total hours for each are 120 hours for each discipline and 320 hours of on-the-job training.

The Construction Training Program will educate students in the following areas:

  • Job Safety - proper clothing and foot wear, correct use of ladders, scaffolding, gas and fire alarm safety, trade tools (hammer, screw drivers, hole and band saws, cutting and bending equipment, testing equipment...)
  • Construction Drawings - read and correctly interpret blueprints and job specifications
  • Building Codes - knowledgeable and understand purpose of codes
  • Electrical - electrical circuits, conduit, conduit bending, wire pulling, meter reading, fastening techniques, electrical motors, commercial and residential wiring methods
  • Air Conditioning - basic electricity, chemical usage, mechanical methods, motor control circuits, and duct work installation
  • Plumbing - basic plumbing, pipe installation, sewer piping, water piping, cutting and drilling for water meters, plumbing fixture installation, soldering and welding
  • Carpentry - house framing installation, roofing, form framing, trim work, cabinet, floor, and door installation

Our Professional Fundamentals Training Program exerts emphasis on preparation for the job market. This program includes resumé preparation, job readiness training and interviewing techniques. This portion will be taught by the Human Resource Specialist. This program will also include basic math, reading, and computer classes with most currently used office and construction software.

All students will complete 320 hours of paid on-the-job training working on a construction site. Students completing this curriculum, with the required six months training under a bona fide tradesman, are certified as trained tradesman.

The success of this program can be measured by the job placement of the student participants. Of the 35 successfully trained through this program, more than half are now employed with electrical contractors such as Pan American, Stone River Electrical Company. Others are employed on a part-time basis with Nashboro Village Golf Course, Windsor House, and those previously mentioned.
