Be A Helping Hand Foundation (BH2) is a nonprofit charitable organization started in April
2001. BAHH was aware of the noticeable increase in young persons, ages 17 and up, in economically
disadvantaged communities, hanging on street corners appearing lost with no sense of direction.
BAHH understands the impact that the skills he has acquired can be taught to others,
thereby affording them an opportunity to succeed as well.
BH2 purposed to teach various trade skills, provide direction, job search and placement for young
men and women. The main target is the inner-city young persons who need to be financially secure
in providing for themselves and their families. Training is provided at no cost to the students.
Through this program, these young persons have a choice of training in electrical, plumbing, carpentry,
air conditioning and computer skills. Students also benefit by receiving the necessary enrichment
skills to enable them to productive individuals in an environment to which they once felt
indifferent. They also are taught basic math, reading skills and job readiness skills.
Be A Helping Hand Foundation has completed the construction of the Training Center and Workshop
located at 827 W. McKennie Avenue in East Nashville. At present, the classroom can accommodate
10 students. The workshop is equipped with 3-phase power which is necessary to run 3-
phase motors and equipment. The training program consists of four major disciplines: electrical,
air conditioning, plumbing, and carpentry. All disciplines require math, reading, computer, and
general knowledge classes.
Some of the instructors teach on a volunteer basis. We have some administrative costs incurred
for instructors, Human Resource Specialist, and Computer Class Instructors. We will hire an Executive
Director in 2007, a Program Director and a Job Placement Coordinator in 2008. The program
will be operating at 100% by the year 2008. We will continue our fundraising efforts and
corporate solicitations to cover these additional personnel requirements. We also have commitments
for on-the-job training from area contractors and construction companies.
Be A Helping Hand Foundation is planning for growth which will ultimately include an increase in
our student class to 20 students and the expansion of the classroom and workshop to accommodate
the increased volume. Financial support from your organization will positively impact the
organization's current and future operating budgets. The funds will cover the direct costs incurred
for program operation including much needed supplies and materials. This will also allow the instructors
to hold one combined class instead of breaking into smaller groups in order to share the
tools and materials. Ultimately this will result in more hands-on training with tools for the students.
